The BCT Summer Picnic – Celebrating 30 Years Together

Our organisation proudly celebrated its thirtieth anniversary at this year’s summer picnic, and BCT Volunteer Daniela Sustac tells us how it went.

Celebrating 30 Years Together

On Saturday, 18th of June, the BCT celebrated its 30th anniversary in a grand event at Schützenmatt Park. Thirty years of supporting families in the Basel area is quite an achievement; I feel proud to be part of this organisation.

Families were invited to a “bring your own” picnic to commemorate the occasion together, and the BCT provided the entertainment.

So Many Fun Activities

Undoubtedly, the biggest attraction was a yellow and bouncy purple castle. It delighted the children and attracted other families walking through the park. The latter immediately signed up for the festivities. All in all, we had over 115 participants.

The earlier part of the outing saw little ones enjoying themselves.

They played with bubbles and threw a ball around.

Children swarmed the face-painting table that our teenage volunteers headed. One little girl repeatedly returned to get eight tattoos.

Then, Nurse Alison Snow, a long-time BCT supporter, performed a first-aid choking demo.

She also provided hands-on training for the parents.

The session reassured some first-time parents, such as myself, who were unsure what to do in these situations.

Another highlight was the lovely session with Kindermusik.

Susan Pombo-Ball and Susie Atkinson led the parents and children to sing and dance.

Parents and children grabbed onto the parachute and swayed under the shade of the trees.

The family’s favourite tune, “Aramsamsam”, had everyone shaking.

Afterwards, Susie Atkinson engaged families with younger children with a baby signing class.

The “babes” appeared happy, and I hummed along to the “Wheels on the Bus” song.

There’s no party without cake!

Thankfully, Jannick and Tony from the Magical Cafe presented the BCT with a stunning-looking cake.

The cake was delicious too, and we devoured it.

But only after we all sang “Happy Birthday” to the BCT.

Meanwhile, the kids decorated their cupcakes with buttercream frosting, sprinkles and flowers.

A friendly reminder that the BCT was not responsible for sticky fingers, food stains, or sugar crashes. 😊

The party ended with a warm “see you next time” and the distribution of a door gift.

The BCT is grateful to the event’s wonderful financial sponsors.

They include Crown Facility, Zumbini and Dina Sarby. The BCT appreciates their financial support.

We are also thankful to the event’s partners and in-kind sponsors.

Namely, Alison Snow (registered nurse, Kindermusik, and Susie Atkinson with Mignon: Supporting Birth and Parenting.

The demonstrations at the event were incredibly informative and enjoyable.

A special thank you goes to BCT volunteers Abby and Nadya.

They spearheaded the team organising the events, and its success reflected their painstaking effort.

The BCT also appreciates the volunteers and members who supported and participated in the summer picnic.
