Who we are
We are individuals and families living in the Basel region who share a common interest in supporting each other while balancing parenthood, work, and life. We organize weekly playgroups, parenting workshops, special events, monthly activities, neighborhood groups and more.
The BCT common language is English, but we come from all over the world (including locally) and represent many languages and cultures. Members range from established families, expecting parents, individuals who want to volunteer their time, and families arriving in the Basel area for the first time. In any scenario, the BCT is a fantastic way to find friends in the greater Basel area. Become a member today.
All BCT programs are made possible by our generous volunteers, who give their time and energy to create resources and a welcoming community for other Basel families. We are so grateful for our volunteers! Without them the BCT would not exist. Like the BCT members we serve, the BCT volunteer team is composed of international and local families and people who want to be involved – with other members, with our wider community, and with the surrounding Basel region. History
The BCT was founded in 1992 with only 29 members. In the beginning the BCT offered a breastfeeding course and quarterly newsletter. Gradually the number of volunteers, members and programs grew. Today the BCT offers 5 weekly playgroups, parenting workshops, special events, monthly activities, neighborhood groups and more. The past 30 years have brought about many changes, but one thing has remained the same: The BCT has consistently provided information, community, and support to Basel families. We are proud to continue this legacy today!
Values
The BCT values community and friendship. We strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and supportive and to provide information and a support network to help families here in the Basel region. The journey of parenthood, moving to a new place, or simply balancing life can be difficult. We’re here to create community and resources so that you don’t have to navigate it alone.

No, all you need to have is some spare time, dedication, and a sense of community! We welcome volunteers with or without children. There is a place for everyone at the BCT.
We are an international community! You don’t need to be a native English speaker, but all of our meetings, playgroups and events are conducted in English. Therefore volunteers just need to have a level of English that enables volunteers to communicate with each other and potentially with members and business partners.
